Today’s Guest:

Our success story today is Katie. She went for a very long time without a period and was eventually diagnosed with PCOS. She tried IUI and had some false starts before she tried IVF that was successful the first time.

Most of Katie’s infertility treatment time was spent trying to get her period to restart, just so they could really begin trying to get pregnant. She was prepared for the emotional side effects of these drugs on her body, but found that most of her side effects were physical. Blood clots and sciatica became common place for Katie. As someone who has always been physically active and run marathons, Katie found this harder to deal with than the emotional side effects.

Through her experience with infertility and the subsequent treatment and side effects, Katie had a vision to start a support group to help women in the same situation support each other. Thus, her group Shine was born. It started out as a support group and after the 2 year mark it has grown into a popular nonprofit in Chicago.
